His talented four-year-old gelding Depth That Varies was, as of Thursday afternoon, a $12 chance in the $50,000 Country Championships wild card (1280m).
The race provides a final chance for horses to qualify for the $500,000 Country Championships final at Randwick on April 10.
Morgan, 31, believes that the class of the wild card field, the heavy track and the distance may work against Depth That Varies, who finished third to Spiranac in the Hunter and North West Country Championships qualifier at Tamworth on March 7 and has four wins from 16 starts, for more than $114,000 in prize money.
However, the younger brother of leading country trainer Cody Morgan said that having a horse of Depth That Varies' quality "inspires you to keep doing your best, because there's so much on the line".
The former world champion saddle bronc rider's main business is horse breaking and education. His clients include Sydney trainers and billionaire retailer and horse breeder Gerry Harvey.
"At the moment we've got a lot of really well-bred yearlings," Morgan said.
But given the heavy toll the profession takes on the body, he hopes to "slowly transition" to full-time training within 10 years.
He said the injuries he sustained in rodeo - including a broken arm and two fractured vertebrae - might have aged his body "a lot quicker".
"When I'm 45-50, I wouldn't like to be riding 20 breakers a day, which I'm doing now."
The Morgans have a two-year-old daughter, Lexi. About 18 months ago, they bought the 40-hectare property on Wallamore Road. It includes 40 stables and a track.
"It's a real family sport," Morgan said, adding that his wife "works every day alongside" him.
