In what were some pretty brutal conditions, Willis' training paid off as he produced some consistent lap times. He was impressively only three seconds slower than the winner in the 17-minute XCC and only 19 (on his fastest lap) in the XCO.
[Katherine] Hosking meanwhile blitzed the field to win her second under-23s title, recording the second fastest lap across the whole competition behind McConnell. She also just missed the podium in the Cross-Country Team Relay, the team of four that she was a part of finishing fourth.
Isabella also had a good championships. Along with her silver in the e-bike race she also placed fifth in both the XCC and XCO in the under-23s. The siblings were part of a six-strong New England Mountain Bikers' contingent that made the trip across the Bass Straight for the championships.
Olive Tutt took fifth place in the under-19s XCO and Holly Harris eighth in the elite women, while Tumi Thorsteinsson finished 13th in the under-23s men and Toby Inglis 13th in the under-17s boys.
Inglis also placed 13th in the short course event and Thorsteinsson 11th, while Tutt climbed to fourth.
