A FORD driver who died at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash south of Tenterfield remains unidentified as police try to piece together what happened.

Forensic teams are examining the crime scene of a crash that took place on the New England Highway about 8:20am on Monday.
Police have made an appeal to any witnesses to the crash or anyone who may have dash cam footage to contact crash investigators.
Emergency services rushed to the scene about five kilometres south of Tenterfield after report a Ford Falcon headed south, a water tanker and a Toyota Landcruiser both travelling north had collided.
The Ford driver died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The 43-year-old truck driver and 21-year old Toyota driver were uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol tests.
A male passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to Tenterfield Hospital for treatment.
The New England Highway was closed for several hours after the crash, it has since reopened.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
