Popular Currabubula Boutique Markets set to come back bigger and better in May 2021

The bi-annual event will take place for the first time since 2019 on Sunday, May 2, and has moved from Currabubula Public School - whose P&C association run proceedings - to the Currabubula Recreational Ground this year in order to accommodate more people and make it easier to abide by coronavirus restrictions.

This means the amount of stalls it can have has also increased, with organiser Veronica Filby revealing there is room for approximately 70, with more than 40 having already applied.

People who have been knocked back in previous years are being asked to try again as organisers continue to search for more stalls.

Due to the amount of extra work volunteers have to do as a result of restrictions and guidelines, Ms Filby said there is a greater need for food stalls this time around.

"In previous years our P&C association have run a barbecue and had a cake stall, but because all of our volunteers will have to work on managing all the COVID requirements... we've decided that we won't be doing the food ourselves," she said.

So if it's anything from ice creams to biscuits to cakes to donuts to lunch options because it's over the lunch period, we're encouraging anybody with anything they'd like to sell in terms of food to apply."

Despite the town having such a small population, the turnout to the markets is often quite large and Ms Filby believes that is due to its location.

She said because Currabubula can be accessed "from nearly every direction", it's a perfect location as it draws in people from all the surrounding towns.

Given the competitiveness of the spot for stalls, she also believes the quality of goods available is quite high, and visitors are aware of that which contributed to their decision to attend.

"We've got some really lovely favourites back that are just beautiful quality, everything from clothing to furniture to body products and things like that," she said.

The high volume of new stalls is also something that is exciting organisers and prospective customers.

The event is a fundraiser for the school and this year the P&C is teaming up with the Currabubula Pony Club who are celebrating 50 years of activities in the community.

"The Currabubula Pony Club are such a fantastic community organisation and so many children in our community over the last 50 years have enjoyed the equine programs they have offered", said Mrs Filby.

Stall holders can apply for a stall through the Currabubula Events website or they can enquire through the Currabubula Boutique Market Facebook page.

The market day will run from 10am - 2pm on Sunday the 2nd of May.
