Paradise Park remediation project: Tamworth Regional Council almost ready to open city's newest park to public at King George V Avenue

Construction fences have been removed around the pergola and picnic area that Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) took on to try and beautify the area, and bring new life to the historic Paradise Pump Station.

The first stage of construction was budgeted at close to half-a-million dollars and covered the build of a unique pergola, along with a park bench and landscaping.

A council spokeswoman confirmed the park would be officially opened to the public in the coming days.

"The finishing touches on the Paradise Pump Station remediation project are being completed this week," she said.

"We are looking forward to officially opening the space to the public next week."

TRC plans show a second stage could include a barbecue and more seats for users.

The development is being built at the start of King George V Avenue - across Paradise Bridge - so people visiting the heritage-listed tourist destination can make the most of it.

The old pump station was built about 1915 and connected town users to water from the Peel River.

Council spent about 18 months considering ideas about how to best beautify and use the space, before settling on a public park.

The remediation project was announced in June, and the public opening is scheduled for next week.
