Coach Geoff Sharpe took a Roosters side made up of of first grade, reserve grade and under 18s players away to take on the Terriers.
Kooty came back with a 26-8 win and forward Josh Kevill was one player who stood out for Sharpe.
"He came down from Walcha when they didn't get going last year," Sharpe said.
"He hits pretty well and made some good hit-ups."

Sharpe said young forwards like Trae Cronin and Logan Howard would benefit from having Kevill alongside them in the pack.
"He's an older head and will complement the young fellas quite well," Sharpe said.
Another player to impress in the trial was under 18s hooker Riley Reid.
The young gun nabbed a double and caught the attention of Sharpe.
While Kurt Hartmann is Sharpe's first-choice dummy half at the moment, the coach said he'd be following Reid's progress.
"I'll keep an eye on him," Sharpe said.
"We've got a good, young nine [Hartmann] who's probably going to start the season but the young fella [Reid] has been training really, really well and he's a good kid."
Sharpe's son, and Kootingal halfback, Jordan, turned out for the Roosters on Saturday and came through the game unscathed.
The playmaker dislocated his knee in the 2019 Group 4 preliminary final, an injury that should have sidelined him for four weeks, but still lined up in the grand final that year. On the weekend, he played a position he's not too familiar with.
"He's had a full season of oztag so he's going alright. He had a bit of a run at fullback. We're trialling a few blokes there," coach Sharpe said.
Kooty's league tag side also played on Saturday and won 36-0.
Kooty's first grade and 18s will play a trial game this Saturday against Singleton. The day starts with the 18s at 3pm with first grade scheduled to start just after 4pm. Spectators are welcome and cost for entry is a gold coin donation.
