St Xavier's Gunnedah's Jacob Smith continued his record-breaking summer when swimmers from catholic primary schools around the region took to Tamworth's Scully Park Pool for the Armidale Diocesan carnival.

Three weeks after breaking three records at the New England and North West Area Championships, the young superfish clocked 39.79 seconds in his 11-years boys 50m backstroke to eclipse Ned Yeoman's mark set back in 2007.
He was one of two individual record-breakers for the carnival with St Xavier's Narrabri's Jack Lowick slicing more than a second off the 11-13-years 200m individual medley record held by James Clift since 2005 with his swim of 2mins 55.13secs.

The St Xavier's Gunnedah team of Tahni Bush, Dana Campbell, Audrey Hannaford and Danika Jones meanwhile broke the senior girls relay record with a time of 2mins 21.73secs. The record was held by St Nicholas' Tamworth.
Smith and Lowick were both also named their respective age champions - Smith the 11-years boys and Lowick the senior boys.
Grace Lawty (St Francis Xavier's Narrabri) was the junior girls champion and school-mate Eddie Lowick the junior boys, Madeleine Monet (St Joseph's West Tamworth) the 11-years girls and Audrey Hannaford (St Xavier's Gunnedah) the senior girls.
Just under 300 swimmers from schools stretching from Walgett, up to Tenterfield and south to Quirindi participated in the carnival with the top three placegetters in each individual event qualifying to compete at the NSW Catholic Primary Schools (CPS) Swimming Championships in Sydney on March 22.
There they will be swimming for a spot on the Polding team for the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) Championships on March 31 and April 1.
