Quirindi Camel Cup 2021 cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions

The event has never been able to take place as a result of coronavirus restrictions.

The inaugural event was meant to go ahead on March 20 last year before COVID struck, and was postponed till March 2021. But now, it's been postponed again till 2022.

Each planned date has been March 20, and this will still be the case whenever the cup can go ahead.

Event committee member Lauren Maybury said there was a lot of effort needed to organise the cup, and they didn't want to put all the work in to then have to postpone at the last minute again.

"It's definitely disappointing to have to cancel that and then this year we were wary of what could happen at the last minute," she said.

"We were worried about visitors coming to the area en masse and potentially transferring the virus. We didn't want to leave a bad taste in people's mouths and we wanted people to enjoy it."

Ms Maybury said last time the committee had to cancel four days before the event.

But she's confident that when the cup is able to be held, many will get on board and support it.

"Everyone's very keen, we get lots of questions about it through the Facebook page," she said.
