Congratulations to sisters Jemma Coney and Madi Young who have been invited to contest the $20,000 Ladies Drivers Invitational Race at Menangle on February 27.
The two Tamworth reinswomen are certainly enjoying their harness racing and have been invited to Menangle to contest the race alongside the best of the best with Jess Prior who has accepted her invitation after driving the winner of the 2020 Indigenous Drivers Final at Menangle, Amy Rees, Amanda Turnbull, Steph Lippiatt, Ashley Hart, Ellen Rixon and Amy Day.
Congratulations once again to Coney who has also been chosen by Harness Racing NSW as an Ambassador for this year's Team Teal Ovarian Cancer campaign which will run from February 1 to March 14.
This is the sixth year of the Team Teal campaign, where reinswomen don their teal pants in competition and Jemma as an Ambassador will also be wearing distinctive race silks.
Coney will be joined by Amanda Turnbull, Ellen Bartley, and Ash Hart as driving Ambassadors while KerryAnn Morris will be a training ambassador as part of team Teal.
For each winner that Jemma Coney drives $300 will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Charity.
Both Coney and Young, are currently listed in the Top 10 on the HRNSW State Female Drivers Premiership, and are doing a great job in highlighting the younger talent in the north west on the Paceway.
With Harness Racing NSW not having their major presentation night for last season due to COVID restrictions we must acknowledge former local and regular at the Tamworth meetings Tom Ison who has received a "Centurion" Award alongside Blake Hughes who now calls Tamworth home after leaving the Hunter Valley.
Tom secured 152 winning drives last season while Blake had 121 and were named alongside Luke McCarthy (232) and Robbi Morris (180) Amanda Turnbull (180) as some of the names on the list.
Night racing is returning to Tamworth this Saturday night with the PKF Chartered Accountants supported meeting with eight races including the running of the Joan Bullock Memorial.
Bathurst resident trainer Peter Bullock has Ellen Shannon engaged from the three barrier in the 1980 metre event to be driven by his son Travis.
The second stable driver for the Peter Bullock stables, Kimberley Grant, has accepted a drive behind the John Enks trained Peggy Sue Shannon in the Memorial race.
The second feature race on the program will be the Bearing Accessories Local Pace with Tamworth store Manager Cameron Bullock, also a son of Peter, trackside to see who will win the races.
Tamworth will race again on Wednesday, February 17 at night and if you would like to mark your calendar the $100,000 Newcastle Mile will be conducted on Friday, February 19 with the winner gaining entry into the Million Dollar Garrard's Miracle Mile at Menangle on March 6.
