Simon Norvill credited "hard work" for a quick-fire century that helped propel Tamworth to a big Connolly Cup victory over Peel Valley at No 1 Oval on Sunday.

Norvill's 79-ball 111 was bettered by fellow opener Adam McGuirk's 66-run 121 (both batsmen retired), as Tamworth amassed 7-389 off 50 overs.

"I've been working hard on trying to spend a bit more time in the middle," Norvill said.
Teenager leg spinner Zac Craig - who is Norvill and McGuirk's Old Boys teammate - took 4-34 off 10 overs after opening the bowling, as Peel Valley were dismissed for 107 in the 40th over.
Despite the convincing win, Tamworth failed to make the semi-finals after finishing in fourth place on the table - 11 points behind first-placed Gunnedah and one point behind second-placed Narrabri Blue.
In the February 14 semi-finals, Gunnedah will host Moree and Inverell will host Narrabri Blue. On Sunday, Gunnedah beat Narrabri Gold by 24 runs and Narrabri Blue beat Quirindi by 65 runs.
In the Gwydir Conference, Inverell and Moree finished first and second respectively. On Sunday, Inverell beat Walcha by 208 runs, while Gwydir beat Armidale by 56 runs.
