Allannah Turner is starting her first high school year here in Tamworth after making the move from Toowoomba.
Set to commence at Peel High, she specifically picked the school for very special reasons.
With multiple family members attending the Tamworth secondary school, she feels a strong connection to her proud Gamilaroi, Wiradjuri and Islander heritage.
"I was born here, and I thought it would be a great place to go to high school too," Allannah explained.
A sports fan, she's looking forward to getting into the touch teams and testing her mettle on the field.
Despite border closures and uncertainty, she said making the move from Queensland to NSW was "easy".
"It was actually amazing how easy it was," she smiled.
While she's looking forward to hanging out with her cousins, she said the thing she'll miss the most is the proximity to the beaches.

At the other end of the spectrum, starting kindy for the first time was the adventure of a lifetime for Fletcher Sipple and Ashton Hawley.
Heading off to kindy at Carinya Christian School this week, mums Sharron Sipple and Alicia Hawley said they'd been very excited in the lead up to their start on Wednesday.
"He wasn't shy at all and was excited to find his desk with his name to do some craft there ready for him to do," Mrs Sipple doted.
"Although the orientation and transition have been different to previous years, this is our first child starting school so we do not know any different and nor does he."
For Mrs Hawley, she felt like she should have been sad, but was just incredibly proud of her boy who was "grinning from ear to ear" by the time they got to the drop off.

"He would love to be a policeman when he finishes school."
