And as the heat rises, the region is being urged to 'take care', with an alert issued warning that alcohol can increase your risk of sunburn.
With a top of 35 degrees reached on Sunday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), today will be one single degree cooler.
For the all important Australia Day on Tuesday, it will be a sunny 34 degrees, with light winds set to rise from a northeasterly direction at 15 to 20 kilometres an hour in the evening.
Wednesday will see a top of 37, with it cooling down to 33 once Friday rolls around.
Gunnedah's temperatures echo Tamworth's, except for being two degrees hotter on Australia Day.

With the heat wave sweeping the state, the BoM urged residents to closely monitor Fire Danger Warnings. Southern and central NSW will see temperatures of low to mid-40s.
A total fire ban has been issued for the Riverina areas as temperatures soar well past the 40 degree mark.
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation is encouraging Aussies to take care if they plan on drinking alcohol outdoors this Australia Day holiday.
Alcohol and Drug Foundation CEO Dr Erin Lalor encouraged Australians to follow the new alcohol guidelines, which were released recently by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), to reduce the risk of alcohol harm.
She said dimply put, alcohol has a detrimental effect on your body which "decreases your ability to protect your skin from UV light."
"It only takes a few drinks to reduce the amount of UV light needed to burn the skin," she noted.
"Overall, alcohol consumption increases the risk of sunburn development and severity."
The guidelines recommend healthy adults drink no more than four standard drinks in one day to reduce the risk of injury.
"Healthy adults should have no more than 10 standard drinks a week to reduce the risk of serious long-term health impacts like cancer."
