Selim Sensoy jailed for escaping from Glen Innes prison on May 23, after arrest in Windsor near Sydney

Selim Sensoy had been one of the force's most wanted since he fled the Glen Innes Correctional Centre on May 23, last year.

The inmate managed to flee the minimum security prison farm on foot, and evaded officers for months on end up until they pounced just before dawn on Monday.

Now the 44-year-old is set to spend even more time behind bars for his eight months of freedom.

Sensoy had been serving out his sentence in Glen Innes prison for domestic assault and a firearm-related offence when the jail break occurred.

He stole a tractor from a nearby property and used that in his getaway.

Sensoy's since evaded officers from New England, as well as police helicopters, the dog squad and specialist Sydney squads who have been searching for him.

After a public tip-off, police made their move about 5am on Monday.

Officers from Hawksbury Police Area Command, alongside the dog unit, pinpointed Sensoy to the home on New Street in Windsor and surrounded it.

Police said Sensoy tried to flee out the back when he saw police but he was no match for the dog unit who pounced.

He was taken to Windsor Police Station where he was charged with two outstanding arrests warrants for inmate escape from lawful custody, and stealing a motor vehicle, namely a tractor.

He was refused bail by police and appeared in Penrith Local Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to both offences.

Magistrate Bree Chisholm sentenced him to 15 months in custody for the prison escape, with a 10-month non-parole period.

For stealing the tractor, he was jailed for 20 months, with a minimum of 15 months in custody.

Magistrate Chisholm ordered the offences to be served partially concurrent with one another, meaning he will be first eligible for parole in July 2023.
