Strike Force Catkin police arrest 31-year-old man in Henry Street, Werris Creek on Tamworth drug supply allegations

Officers from Oxley police zeroed in on a 31-year-old man at a Henry Street home in Werris Creek about 9:30am, after an investigation into the supply of illegal drugs across the Tamworth area.

Code-named Strike Force Catkin, officers arrested the man on allegations he supplied illicit drugs on an ongoing basis.

He was taken to Tamworth police station where he was charged with supplying a prohibited drug; supplying drugs on an ongoing basis; supplying cannabis; and dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

He's also accused of kidnapping by detaining a person in company with intent to obtain an advantage.

The 31-year-old man was denied bail by police and is set to front an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Local Court on Friday.

The man is staring down the barrel of a a lengthy jail sentence if found guilty of the allegations against him, with one of the charges carrying a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment.

The strike force was launched in April last year, to target suspects accused of supplying illegal drugs in the Tamworth and Werris Creek areas.

Officers from the special team raided a home in Tamworth in late-June last year, after investigations led them to a Robert Street address.

At the time, the strike force seized cannabis, unauthorised prescription medication, cash, mobile phones and "drug paraphernalia" from inside the home.

Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy called for public help from anyone with information on drug supply across the Werris Creek or Tamworth areas to come forward so that police could make inroads.

"We want to get prohibited drugs off our streets, and will continue to target those who supply drugs in our community," he said. Investigations are continuing.
