A FLOOD warning has been issued for the Peel River in Tamworth.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued a moderate flood warning for the river just before 5pm on Tuesday.
The Peel is expected to peak in town at 4.2m at about 6pm tonight.
The BoM said minor flooding is already being seen in Tamworth, as the swollen Peel River laps at its banks. There are reports some carparks are being inundated with water near the river.

Water continues to flow downstream after heavy rain fell above Tamworth and in the Cockburn catchment, which flows into the Peel River near Nemingha, in the past 24 hours.
The BoM and the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) advised locals on what to do in a flood.
People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding need to consider the following:
- Refraining from driving or walking through flood water
- The impact of possible road closures
- Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, the NSW SES Facebook page and BoM website
- If your property is at risk of inundation, please raise moveable items, such as furniture, as high as possible onto benches or tables, placing electrical items on top
- If you live in a low-lying area and are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so
- Avoid drowning by keeping clear of rising water
- Avoid being swept away be keeping clear of storm drains and fast-flowing creeks or rivers
- Never walk, ride or drive through flood water as it can be very dangerous and deceptive
The next flood warning update will be uploaded to the BoM website by 8pm on Tuesday.
