The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning after heavy rainfall overnight has caused significant river level rises along the Horton River at Rider.
It has the potential to cause moderate to major flooding along the Gwydir River at Gravesend and Yarraman Bridge, and minor flooding along the Mehi River at Moree.
Gwydir River downstream of Copeton Dam:
The BoM said moderate flooding is likely along the Gwydir River at Gravesend and major flooding is possible at Yarraman Bridge.
The Gwydir River at Gravesend Road Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level (6.10 m) around 3pm Thursday. The river level may reach around 9.80 metres around midnight Thursday into Friday with moderate flooding.
The Gwydir River at Pallamallawa is likely to exceed the minor flood level (6.00 m) around 4am Friday. The river level may reach around 8.70 metres midday Friday with minor flooding.
The Gwydir River at Yarraman Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) around 10am Friday. The river level may reach the major flood level (7.00 m) around 4pm Friday.
The SES said anticipated impacts of flooding include:
- Low lying farm areas bounded by Bininguy, the Gwydir River and Eaton Ponds creek, areas in the Gingham and Big Leather and low lying areas in Yarraman will likely become inundated with access to properties limited. o
- Road access from Pallamallawa to the Gwydir Hwy may be closed.
- Low level bridge at Brajeen Crossing may close limiting access to properties.
- The Gwydir Highway may close in multiple places. o Carnarvon Highway (Moree-Mungidi Road) may close 3kms north of the Gravel Pit Bridge.
Mehi River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Mehi River Moree.
The Mehi River at Moree may reach the minor flood level (5.50 m) on Saturday morning.

The Bureau of Meterology has issued a minor flood warning for Gravesend, Pallamallawa and the Yarraman Bridge.
Heavy rainfall overnight has caused significant river level rises along the Horton River at Rider, which has the potential to cause minor flooding along the Gwydir River at Gravesend, Pallamallawa and Yarraman Bridge.
There is also a heavy rainfall warning currently in place for the North West, with between 20mm to 40mm of rain expected to fall on Thursday morning.
The Gwydir River at Gravesend Road Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level of 6.10 metres around 3pm on Thursday.
The river level may reach around 6.50m around 5pm on Thursday with further rises possible.
The Gwydir River at Pallamallawa may reach the minor flood level of 6m early Friday with further rises possible.
The Gwydir River at Yarraman Bridge may reach around 5m early Friday morning with minor flooding.

The SES advises:
- Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
- Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
- Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
- Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.
