Those planning a relaxing dip in Tamworth City Olympic Pool found themselves victim to the capricious nature of the weather.

The highly anticipated opening day of the pool was heralded in with a rather cool, overcast and windy 24 degree day. A far cry from the scorching week of over 40 degree days the town sweltered through last week.
There was no stopping the diehards however, with the regular group ready and raring to go as soon as the gates opened. Patrick O'Halloran, an avid swimmer, was one such go-getter, who went down to the pool with his group.
"We went down at 5.30am and it was just exhilarating," he exclaimed.
"Credit where credit is due, council has done a very good job to repair the swimming pool and I congratulate them. We've waited a very long time, two years now, and everyone is absolutely delighted that the pool is now open."
Paul Kelly, Tamworth Regional Council's manager of sports and recreation, said while the weather may not have been conducive for a celebratory swim, it was something the town will no doubt take advantage of in the coming summer heat.

"It's great that we've got Tamworth Olympic Pool open again," he said.
"Today we started off a little bit slow, the cooler temperatures and a bit of a breeze kept people away. But we know as the temperature gets warmer again, we'll be seeing a lot more swimmers."
