There is still a chance Tamworth could break heat records as severe conditions look set to continue this week, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Despite the hope a cool air mass sweeping the northern parts of the state would reach the area, BoM meteorologist Helen Kirkup is expecting Tamworth will remain in heatwave conditions over the next few days.
Monday looks set to hit 39 degrees. The mercury is forecasted to hit 42 on Tuesday, with the return of gusty winds like those seen on Sunday afternoon.
A fire ban was put in place for most of the state on Sunday, which was followed with a harvest safety alert for Gunnedah, Liverpool Plains, Moree and Walgett.
Tamworth temperatures rose to 38.4 on Saturday, with Sunday going that step further to 39.2 degrees.
The hottest day in town so far this month has been 39.3 degrees.
Last year, the hottest it got in November was 37.4 degrees.
But it's not out of the question that we could break them, because this heat is looking bad for the area with the severe heat wave lasting for the next few days.

Ms Kirkup said for the next week, we should prepare for afternoon thunderstorms as well.
"For the next few days this week, there is not a high chance of getting any rainfall, however there is chances of an afternoon thunderstorm tomorrow," she told the Leader.
And she predicts the same for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
"This time last year half of the northern part of the state was burning, so it's a very different year to what we saw then," she explained.

"When the monsoon kicks in in December, it will bring more moisture, and we will see a shift to getting days of rain then."
So far, no records have been broken in and around Tamworth, while places like Bourke and Cobar breached their night time highs.
"But it's not out of the question that we could break them, because this heat is looking bad for the area with the severe heat wave lasting for the next few days."
