A TRUCK driver has been seriously injured in a highway crash on Tuesday morning.

The 28-year-old is in a serious condition in Tamworth hospital after he was airlifted from the crash site at Bellata, between Moree and Narrabri.
The man was behind the wheel of the truck which crashed on the Newell Highway shortly before 8.20am.
The driver was initially trapped in the wreckage and had to be released by emergency services.

He was treated at the scene for serious spinal injuries by paramedics.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth and the critical care medical team on board the chopper assessed the patient at the scene.
He was stabilised and flown to Tamworth hospital in a serious but stable condition, a chopper spokesperson confirmed.
