The concept gave footballers and fans alike a taste of rugby league in a year where the regular Group 4 season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Group 4 interim chairman Terry Psarakis rated the competition "a success, for sure" and wanted to build on it in 2021.

"There's enough interest there to say let's go on with it," Psarakis said.
"The committee got behind it and we did very well to pick up major sponsor and four sponsors for the teams.
"We were very pleased [with the WEG 9s] but the dates [for 2021] are a concern.
"The problem is with pre-season - a time a lot of people have mentioned - is we don't think clubs will allow it to go over a four-week period.
"The other option is to go with October again. That's up for discussion. We haven't really had a chance to have an overview of the whole competition."

The WEG 9s will no doubt be one topic of discussion at Group 4's annual general meeting on November 15.
Another to be discussed is who will be voted in as chairman.
Psarakis, who came on as the interim chairman after Ray McCoy stepped down from the role in July, wants to be a part of the committee but as far as the chairman's role goes, he said: "I'll leave it in the hands of the committee but I won't really be putting my hand up for the position."
Psarakis has received a vote of confidence by Group 4 board member Clarence "Lad" Jones and the interim chairman didn't completely shut the door on continuing in the role.
"I'd probably take it on if people thought that was appropriate," he said.
"We'll just see what everyone thinks but I'm sure there will be other people that put their hand up."
With the WEG 9s being run successfully, and at relatively short notice, there is confidence within the Group 4 community that a regular rugby league season will be run in 2021 and Psarakis agreed.
"We're looking forward to a fresh start," Psarakis said.
"We're going to have eight first grade teams and 10 reserve grade sides.
"We'll have the under 18s and the women's as well and hopefully COVID is over and done with by then."
