IT'S SAID preparation is the key to success, and the Tamworth Bush Fire Management Committee has released its proposed risk plan for public consultation.

After the horror summer bushfire season last year, Tamworth Rural Fire Service superintendent Allyn Purkiss said firefighters need a break.
"This looks closer to a 'normal' year, where we come out of winter, get a spring break and then it goes into summer where we might have little fires around Christmas," he said.
"That's what we hope for, we're all pretty tired from last season and everyone needs time to recover."

The key areas of risk identified were hazard reduction burns, ignition management, community education, property planning and preparedness.
The group includes all organisations with an interest in local bush fire management.
The plan is on public exhibition for 42 days at 19-23 Lockheed Street.
