BALLARAT has been confirmed as the host for the 2021 Road National cycling championships, but the five-day event will be pushed back to February.

The rescheduled event has been confirmed for February 3-7, which will be a welcome major event return to the region after months of cancellations and postponements of other major attractions.
And it seems the popular criterium event will also be held in the Ballarat CBD.

The rescheduled 2021 Championships will take place one month later than usual to enable the safe delivery of a major regional event and to optimise the time needed for COVID-safe planning, to provide a safe environment for the community, competitors, and workforce.
AusCycling says it has been working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and the City of Ballarat to ensure that the championships will be conducted in a COVID safe environment.
AusCycling's Acting Joint CEO Steve Drake said: "After such a challenging year we are excited to be able to host the Federation University Road National Championships".
"We look forward to the championships providing a positive impact for Ballarat and the cycling community as part of an exciting domestic summer of cycling."
The 2021 schedule will see a return of the 2020 format, which saw the championships open on Wednesday night with the time trial at Federation University's Mt Helen Campus.
The Friday night criterium will return to the Ballarat CBD with the weekend's road racing to be run on the Mt Buninyong circuit.
City of Ballarat interim chief executive officer Janet Dore said: "The City of Ballarat is committed to working with AusCycling to deliver this world class event for Ballarat in February 2021 in a COVID-safe format that protects our community, riders and spectators."
