Officers are hoping someone was driving in Kent or Belmore Streets and might seen the two males between 3am and 4.30am.
Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said police and forensic services had combed the homes for clues.
"These people are very brazen going into houses into bedrooms while they're asleep," he told the Leader.

Police said the young males - believed to be teenagers - were last seen wearing dark clothing with hoods, and are described as being Aboriginal in appearance.
They hit one home in Kent Street and fled once they were disturbed inside. They struck again shortly after, this time around the corner in Belmore Street where once again they were disturbed by residents that woke.
"We're appealing for anyone that might have been driving to work, or coming home, or who might have been awake that might have seen these males acting suspiciously, loitering in the streets between 3am and 4.30am," Detective Darcy said.
"We will make additional patrols to target these people.
"Operation Southbreak will continue to target property crime across Tamworth and we would again urge community members to be vigilant and let us know when they see suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods."
Meanwhile, a man on warrants has been arrested in an early-morning operation by the Oxley Proactive Crime Team.
The unit travelled to Caroona where they had information that a suspect wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant was hiding.
He was found in a house in Caroona about 7am and was arrested without incident, police said.
He's been taken to Tamworth police station and charged with the outstanding warrant.
He remains in custody.
