Just minutes later, at about 3am, firefighters responded to a second car fire in the same neighbourhood on Green Street, where they found a car "well alight".
Oxley Police District officers confirmed investigations are continuing for both of the car fires reported overnight.
Senior Constable Aaron Turner said both cars appeared to have been abandoned, not stolen.
"At this stage, police are canvassing the area and further investigations are to be made," he told the Leader.
"Attempts will be made to track down the owners and possibly some firebugs."
