Inverell export Dylan Sunderland has had a tough start to his Grand Tour debut, finishing in 158th place on the opening stage - a 15.1km time trial - in the Giro d'Italia.

The 24-year-old, riding for South African team NTT Pro Cycling, clocked 18min 04sec - to finish two minutes and forty seconds behind the stage winner, Filippo Ganna of Italy.

Sunderland's teammate, Matteo Sobrero, was seventh fastest in Saturday's time trial.
The second stage - a 207km examination from San Salvo to Roccaraso - is held on Sunday.
Sunderland is in his first season as a professional. "I'm just so excited to be heading to the Giro for my debut Grand Tour," he told Bicycling Australia prior to the Giro d'Italia starting.
"I'm incredibly proud and I can't wait to get started with the next three weeks of racing, doing whatever is required of me within the team to make it as successful as possible for the team."
