Tamworth Regional Council has put a plug in Chaffey Dam and has been sourcing Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal's town water from the Peel River, allowing the depleted source to replenish.
About 3ML of environmental water mandated by the state government still gushes downstream each day.
Chaffey Dam is sitting at 26 per cent full, after a small rise during the past fortnight.
