A small group of children who rallied in Tamworth on Friday to ask the government to slash support for the gas industry say they could physically halt the development of the Narrabri Gas Project if it is approved next week.

The Tamworth demonstration was among 600 held across the country on Friday.
The school strike for climate group has been on hiatus since the start of the COVID-19 crisis. Friday's rallies were the first since the start of 2020
Tamworth student Chiara Leabon told media she was concerned about the Narrabri Gas Project.

Asked if kids in the area would take direct action - physically blocking construction of the $3.6 billion project - she said they would.
Helen Cameron of Parents and Friends for Climate Action said they had been in direct contact with local MPs.
"The response that we're getting I guess is closed ears, basically," she said.
"Just last week there was a survey that said 70 per cent of Australians wanted a renewable-led recovery and yet we're not seeing that in the government's agenda."
The Narrabri Gas Project, a plan to build some 850 coal seam gas wells in and around the Pilliga forest near Narrabri, is set to get a final determination by the Independent Planning Commission next week.
"Australia's tragic fire seasons as well as the recent California fires must serve as a wake-up call to Australians, especially those in the North West area," said Ms Leabon.
"We are very vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and we are running out of time. This is not a time to be silent."
