Tamworth Regional Council commits to fund Cooperative Research Centres for the next 10 years

Council was approached to see if they were keen on funding the Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), researching water security and the Murray-Darling Basin respectively.

Councillor Charles Impy said he would love to see the region be used as a case model for research.

"This is an opportunity to progress important matters, I'd love to see us be a special case model or activation centre for some of the research being undertaken by either CRC," he said.

"Being a large centre it's well documented some of the water issues we have had in the past and it's dotted through our history, I would love this centre and region to be a case model."

Councillor Helen Tickle said the research fits in well with council's water sustainability objectives.

"It's fitting we do invest in this as an organisation, they have investments in new technologies that invest in water recycling in a safe and reliable way."

While it will cost the council $10,000 every year for 10 years, councillor Russell Webb said he wanted the community to understand it gives the council a seat at the table.
