Hillvue house fire: Richard George Sands has case adjourned for more evidence in case of house fire that took two lives

Richard George Sands nor his solicitor Joanne Harris appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday as Magistrate Julie Soars ordered the case return in October after a brief compliance check.

"I note in this matter a suppression order applies which was determined based on the merits some time ago," Ms Soars said.

For legal reasons the Leader is unable to report details of the case that could identify the alleged victims.

At this stage the matter remains in the hands of police prosecution, but it's uncertain whether it will be referred to the DPP who deal with more serious charges.

He faces two charges of murder and two charges of attempted murder and is yet to enter pleas.

Sands was arrested and charged with the murder of a woman and child and the attempted murder of another woman and child in a horror Hillvue housefire on October 17, last year.

Oxley Police District detectives allege Sands deliberately lit the home on fire just before sunrise, which claimed the life of a woman, whose body was located in the front bedroom, and a child found deceased at the rear of the house.

The other woman and child were rushed to hospital with burns so severe the woman was eventually airlifted to a specialist unit in Sydney as she suffered burns to almost 80 per cent of her body.

Sands has remained in custody since his arrest a day after the fire.
