"The horse has been going really good - everything is going his way at the moment," said Varga, with Mac Stubborn having four starts for the syndicate and producing two wins and two minor placings.
If Mac Stubborn does take the title in the $10,000 Tamworth feature, it will be three wins on the trot - although Varga said the race had some "very strong" contenders.
"They are all competitive runners - all their form is very good," he said.
Varga will have his "fingers crossed" that Mac Stubborn gets a clear run from the two barrier.
"The draw is not too bad - could be worse," he said. 'But I will be looking at how the three horse (The Tiger Army) comes out.
"We will be looking to come off the gate and get a good position and sort it out from there. The Tiger Army was a strong win last start at Newcastle going 1min 55sec."
The Tiger Army is trained by Kylie Barnes at Newcastle and will be driven by Aaron Garaty.
Meanwhile, Cessnock-based trainer Clayton Harmey may be looking for the law of averages to work in his favour - as he has seven runners in the race.
Harmey just wrapped up the trainer's premiership at Tamworth and at his home club of Newcastle, with him tasting Group 1 and Group 2 success. He will have 18 runners engaged at the Tamworth meeting.
