Nellie Bennett admits to late night Coledale stabbing in Tamworth on March 26

Nellie Bennett is being held in custody at Emu Plains Correctional Centre near Sydney and appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court.

The court heard the case had resolved now without the need for a case conference, but it was a plea to a lesser charge.

She's admitted to the stabbing in March in Tamworth - an offence that has seen her behind bars since the night of her arrest.

"I'm instructed to enter a plea of guilty to sequence one which is reckless wounding," Legal Aid solicitor Wendy McAuliffe told the court.

The court had previously been told the DPP was pushing ahead with a charge of wounding with intent, certifying the charge, and the reckless wounding charge was an alternative.

Magistrate Julie Soars formally dismissed the second charge, after the guilty plea, and committed Bennett for sentence for reckless wounding.

Bennett's criminal history, along with the facts in the case were tendered.

"No application for bail today?" Ms Soars asked.

"No, Your Honour," Mc McAuliffe replied.

"If Your Honour would order a full Sentencing Assessment Report [please[."

She will appear in Tamworth District Court in October where a date will be fixed for sentencing.

Last month, solicitor Amanda Gaw withdrew from the case, and the case was referred back to Legal Aid.

Bennett is charged with the stabbing a woman, aged in her forties, in Cossa Street in Coledale on the night of March 26.

The woman was stabbed three times in the torso about 11pm, after an argument unfolded in a block of flats, police claim. She was arrested shortly after by Oxley police.

In August, Bennett was sentenced in court for two charges of damaging or destroying property.

The court was told Bennett smashed holes in the wall of a house, and then hurled a rock through a windscreen, breaking it.

At the time, the police prosecution said Bennett had turned on "a person that was helping her out on the day".

"She's then gone and thrown a rock through a windscreen," the prosecutor said.

At the time, Ms Soars said it was clear the 31-year-old had a problem with illicit substances, and an earlier affray conviction, for which she had breached a court-ordered bond.

Bennett admitted she did "have some anger problems, I guess."

Bennett was subsequently put on two Community Correction Orders for 12 months for damaging property.
