Kasey Brian Hilderson jailed for defrauding men's netball association of more than $80,000

Narrabri man Kasey Hilderson was well-known in netball circles in the North West and across the state but will spend at least eight months behind bars for the frauds after being hauled into custody in Narrabri Local Court.

He was one of the elected officials of the men's netball associations in NSW when he defrauded it.

It was the police case that the 29-year-old, while an elected official of the men's club, transferred funds into his personal account.

He was accused of withdrawing cash, and making purchases at several businesses before his offending was exposed by police earlier this year.

Detectives claimed Hilderson defrauded the association of more than $83,000 between November 2018 and August 2019, when police were alerted and starting looking into the claims.

The then 29-year-old was arrested at a Narrabri home in March and charged after a seven-month investigation by Oxley detectives.

Hilderson has only spent one night in custody after his arrest. He was then granted bail by the court to attend rehab.

In sentencing, magistrate Peter Thompson found the offending had crossed the section 5 threshold for a jail sentence to be imposed and found full-time custody was the only penalty.

He imposed an aggregate sentence of 15 months imprisonment with a minimum of eight months.

Hilderson was taken into custody and will be eligible for parole in April next year.

In June, Hilderson pleaded guilty through his solicitor to a raft of dishonesty offences. The sentence had been adjourned previously while he underwent rehabilitation.

Hilderson was sentenced to 12 months for a dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception; a second count of the same charge attracted a 10-month sentence. Five other similar allegations had sentences between four months and eight months imposed.
