Tamworth Regional Council councillor Mark Rodda said he hoped it would be back bigger and better next year, but that he understood the reasons why it needed to be canned given the outbreak of COVID-19.
The councillors voted unanimously on Tuesday to cancel the 2020 awards.
Normally held at the Wests League Club, this year's event was slated to be held in October.
However, the council's sports and recreation manager Paul Kelly put a report to councillors for Tuesday's meeting calling for the event to be cancelled.
