Normally held at the Wests League Club, this year's event was slated to be held in October.

However, the council's sports and recreation manager Paul Kelly put a report to councillors for Tuesday's meeting calling for the event to be cancelled.
"Following a recommendation from council's sports working group, council is asked to endorse the cancellation of the 2020 Tamworth Regional Sports Awards due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions," Mr Kelly's report read.
"This awards ceremony was scheduled to be held in October 2020, but due to the impact that COVID-19 has had on both the ending of summer sports earlier in the year and the subsequent substantial impact on the winter sports, it was proposed that the event be cancelled for 2020."
The annual awards ceremony honours the region's best sports teams, brightest rising stars and most accomplished athletes.
Muay Thai fighter Josh McCulloch took out last year's sportsperson of the year award, while Kaecia Beattie was named the junior sports star of year and the Tamworth Thunderbolts claimed the senior sports team of the year.
However, this will not be the first time the council has considered canning the event.
In October 2018, the council considered abandoning the awards due to a lack of interest from the community.
