A MAN has been airlifted to a Sydney hospital suffering serious burns, after a fuel explosion at a rural property.

The 40-year-old man was working on an outboard motor at a property at Arding, west of Armidale, when it exploded just after midday on Friday.
An ambulance crew and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service rushed to the scene of the accident at about 12:30pm.

Paramedics and the helicopter's critical care team treated the man for serious burns to his upper body and face.
The man was stabilised and flown by helicopter to the Royal North Shore Hospital burns unit in Sydney, where he will get specialist treatment.
Paramadics confirmed he was conscious throughout the ordeal.
It is understood the 40-year-old man was in a serious but stable condition when he was airlifted.
