Kaleb Crowhurst: Tamworth Swans forward settles in nicely to life in his new home

The 24-year-old from Port Macquarie quickly made himself at home - the Swans key to his easy embrace of his new home.

"I definitely didn't expect it to come together so quickly," he said, ahead of the Swans-Suns clash at No 1 Oval on Saturday.

AFL has been an integral part of Crowhurst's life for years. And it is not the first time he has relied on the sport to ease his introduction into a new environment.

Upon arriving in Bathurst to do a bachelor of communications with a major in radio at Charles Sturt University, he joined the Bathurst Bushrangers AFL Club.

Like his arrival in Tamworth, he knew no one when he lobbed in Bathurst.

"I'm used to going to a new town and having to make new friends," he said.

"So it's always important to join a footy club ... I've always found the best way to meet mates is through a footy team."

Moving to Tamworth has been a transformative experience for Crowhurst for a number of reasons - including the 92.9FM gig being his first full-time job (he worked as a casual at a Port Macquarie radio station, while at 92.9 he is also a production manager.)

Crowhurst announced himself as a serious AFL threat in round two, when he booted 12 majors in the Swans' drought-breaking victory over the Nomads at No 1 Oval.

He mainly plays in the forward pocket, but rotates to the midfield on occasion.

Swans president Josh McKenzie respects Crowhurst as a player, as an influence on his teammates and as a person.

He said the young man was "primarily" at the club to score goals, but was also "a very positive character who has demonstrated a high work rate at training and in games that has lifted the bar for the team".

"He has slotted in beautifully socially as well, which has built on the strong spirit and unity within the team," McKenzie added.
