WHEN the bright red doors roll open tomorrow morning and firies head to their first day of work at the brand new fire station, they'll be ringing in a "new era" of firefighting in Tamworth.

Superintendent Tom Cooper said his crew of firies from the West Tamworth station are pumped to set themselves up in what has shaped up to be one of the best fire stations "probably in the country."
"They're all wound up like you wouldn't believe, they can't wait," he said on Wednesday.
The South Tamworth Fire Station will be taking call outs from Thursday, when firefighters and trucks officially move in to the Ringers Road site.

"It gets real tomorrow at 8 o'clock, we're open for business and we'll be open for business here for quite some time," he said.
"I think they're going to revel in the conditions over here ... happy firies are better firies," he said.
Although there was some mixed emotions about leaving behind 51 years worth of memories at the old Kent Street station, Superintendent Cooper made sure a little slice of history featured in the new building.
The kitchen's mess table is hand crafted by a local firefighter and hand painted by Superintendent Cooper's wife, and features iconic symbols of Tamworth, past captains of the West Tamworth 508 brigade, and the name of every firefighter who'll head to work at the new station from tomorrow.
"We didn't want to just let go of the 508," Superintendent Cooper said.
Soil was turned on the ambitious project last November after years in the making, and firefighters are moving in right on schedule.
