TAMWORTH could soon have a fourth McDonald's restaurant if new plans get the tick of approval.

A development application (DA) has been lodged with Tamworth Regional Council and is set to go on public display this week.
The North Tamworth site has been slated for a vacant block on 114-122 Peel Street, on the corner of Marius Street, and opposite Jack Woolaston Oval.

Developers estimate the construction of the project would cost $3,336,505 and would include a dual-lane drive-through service, as well as McCafe and is slated to be a 24-hour outlet.
If approved, it would mean an additional restaurant on top of the East, South and West Tamworth outlets.
The DA proposes entry to the restaurant would be via Marius Street, while customers would exit via Peel Street.
The DA states the site "is vacant of any buildings, structures, trees or vegetation" and "shares a boundary to the east with Aveo Freedom Aged Care Centre."
In the statement of environmental effects in the application, developers claim the restaurant would have a capacity of 82 patrons, as well as construction of a "2.2m high acoustic fence along the kerbing of the drive-through on the south-eastern boundary, construction of a shared ingress-egress driveway on Marius Street and construction of an egress-only driveway on Peel Street."
A McDonald's spokesperson said if approved, the company would continue its long-standing tradition of "supporting to the community within the area it operates."
"We're still working through the approval process for this location and don't want to pre-empt the decision of the council," the spokesperson said.
"If approved, the restaurant would provide a wide range of career and training opportunities for more than 100 locals."
McDonald's proposal to expand in the Tamworth market comes after fast-food rival Taco Bell had a DA for a site approved earlier this year on the corner of Roderick Street and Byrnes Avenue.
The DA will now go on public exhibition from July 16 to July 30.
