Tamworth's HCF shopfront has survived a cull of four of the health insurer's branches in regional NSW announced today.

The health insurer today announced it will close branches in Orange, Nowra, Port Macquarie and Dubbo on July 23 this year.
The cuts have "not been made lightly" a spokesperson said, reflecting a number of factors including the size of catchment areas and a trend for members to access health insurance online or over the phone.

The spokesperson said the closures will not affect the quality of service provided to members of the firm, Australia's largest not-for-profit health insurer.
"While the decision is not related to COVID-19, that experience has demonstrated how we can actively support members through online and digital channels as well as via call centre support," a spokesperson said.
"We will continue to review our operations to ensure sustainable success and ensure our members are not paying additional costs for unneeded services."
The insurer closed its Bathurst store in July 2016.
A spokesperson said the company thanks its employees for serving their communities with dedication over years and committed to support them through the process.
Workers who lose their jobs will be offered an opportunity to redeploy until the end of the year, they said.
