Pubs on the market and sold in the North West region

A number of pubs around the region are up for sale or have recently been sold by John Parsons Hotels.

The Albert Hotel is one pub that had been sold in the last six months while the Apsley Arms in Walcha also changed hands recently.

The Bendemeer Hotel and the Royal Hotel in Inverell are currently under offer while Werris Creek's Commercial Hotel and the Telegraph Hotel in Tenterfield are up for sale.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the sales of pubs, JP Hotels sales manager Reggie Henderson said.

However, he also noted the market for pubs was still there.

"Country pubs are still moving, which is good," Mr Henderson said.

"The coronavirus has put back the process of selling hotels three to six months but with the adoption of the four square metre rule, hotels have now been able to resume trading.

"Basically, the market is still there but there's been a pause at this particular time. Banks are now reassessing LVRs (loan to value ratio) for lending with hotels."

While the pandemic has hit most businesses hard, including pubs, Mr Henderson said there had been a silver lining during these tough times.

"Bottle shops have really driven the markets. We've found with a lot of our customers, the local communities have got right behind them," he said.

"Take Tenterfield, during the coronavirus pandemic, locals turned to purchasing from local bottle shops instead of chains. People became very patriotic toward local businesses."
