A "tentative" date has been set for the delayed launch of Tamworth's baseball season, with the sport's president fearing players will be lost if the season is abandoned because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tamworth Baseball Incorporated hopes to commence games on July 4, although that start date is contingent on COVID-19 restrictions being relaxed to allow senior community sport to resume in NSW.

TBI president Craig Lee said: "We've set a tentative date ... just so we're ready to go.
"We're hearing that it may be in mid-July [that senior community sport can resume] but we set that date early just in case that all changes."
Lee said the season being delayed to August would likely result in no action occurring in 2020 - a major blow to the sport.
"At this stage we're hoping it does come back in July," he said.
"But if it starts as late as August, we'll probably have to can our competition ... which is really sad because we're a small sport and we need the continuity, because our players will just chose other sports [to play].
