POLICE in Tamworth have responded to 385 incidents of domestic violence in the last year until March, NSW Bureau of Statistics data reveals.

That number is expected to rise as COVID-19 restrictions confined many families to their home, who are only now able to return to work or normal life.
The figures reflect trends in recorded crime before the pandemic, Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research executive director Jackie Fitzgerald said.
"We know that the social distancing measures which commenced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have had a significant impact on the NSW Criminal Justice System," she said.
"The full extent of this impact will be analysed in a forthcoming BOCSAR publication."
Oxley Police District officers have said previously that the number of break and enters in homes have diminished since the coronavirus crisis, but numbers recorded for the last year show that Tamworth had 515 incidents at homes and 115 at other places like businesses.
There were two murders recorded, 731 calls to malicious damage to property and 223 incidents of shoplifting.

There were 102 sexual assaults, 91 indecent assaults and 126 cars stolen.
Robberies without a weapon were down from 12 last year to five this year, and no robberies with a firearm were recorded.
Cases of fraud increased by 102 recorded incidents this year.
