A MAN was trapped in the wreckage of his car for close to an hour before he could be rescued in freezing conditions on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was seriously injured when his car crashed just south of Glen Innes on the New England Highway.
The accident happened shortly before 1pm on Tuesday when the car left the roadway and slammed into a powerpole.
The driver, and sole occupant, was trapped in the wreckage.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and tried frantically to free the injured man.
After almost an hour, rescue personnel managed to free the 27-year-old, who suffered serious lower leg injuries.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth with a critical care medical team on board.
The doctor and paramedic assessed the man's injuries and stabilised him at the scene before he was flown to Tamworth hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The crash is being investigated.
