Miller - a home-based woodworker specialising in rustic and industrial-style pieces - is a member of both the Inverell Mountain Bike Club and the Inverell Cycle Club.
He started riding as a teenager while going to school in Armidale.
"I loved the freedom of it and enjoyed the competitive nature of the sport," he said. "It gave me something positive to focus on and kept me setting goals and feeling like I was achieving."
Miller - who also road races - rates among his best results finishing second in B-grade and winning C-grade at the Grafton to Inverell.
He has also snared gold at national and state championships.
"The competitors just seem to get faster and tougher as you get older," he said. "I feel like it's important now to showcase what older athletes are capable of and be an advocate for men's health."
