THE Gunnedah Pistol Club will be able to give their facilities a long overdue face-lift thanks to a state government grant.

A Local Sports Grant of $4100, will allow the club to upgrade its female toilet facilities, which have remained unchanged for more than 50 years.
Gunnedah Pistol Club secretary John McNeill said the facilities were in serious need of an upgrade because they were "rough as heck".

"The female toilets are about the same as when the Club was built about 50 years ago," Mr McNeill said.
"We want to give it a real tidy up, replace the toilet bowls, hand basins, give it a coat of paint and see if we can install a solar light that is motion activated.
"Currently the club has four female members but with improved facilities I am sure we'll attract more female members.
"This will make them feel more comfortable when they come out to the range."
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said he was hopeful the funding would help boost participation in the sport, once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
"This is great news for the Gunnedah Pistol Club as the facilities are pretty much unchanged since the Club was established about 50 years ago," Mr Anderson said.
"Whether you live in Emerald Hill, Tambar Springs, Gunnedah, Tamworth Werris Creek or Walcha sports is the glue that keeps our communities together.
"Sport helps our communities stay active and healthy but also perform a vital role keeping people connected. Drought, bushfires and now the COVID-19 pandemic have created significant uncertainty for sport in NSW, particularly in regional areas.
"We are all looking forward to seeing community sport return to normal when it is safe to do so and this money will provide vital funds to help organisations like the Gunnedah Pistol Club be ready to resume as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted."
