Tamworth weather: City records year's coldest day in early taste of winter

But this week is likely to bring milder weather for the last days of autumn.

The thermometer didn't hit double digits on Saturday, with the Bureau of Meteorology reporting a daytime top of just 9.7 degrees at the Tamworth airport station.

The weekend's cold front dragged morning temperatures down into the low single digits.

On Friday, the Bureau recorded a low of 4.3 degrees.

On Saturday, Tamworth endured a low of 3.1 degrees.

Sunday brought a warn change, with a low of 6.5 degrees thanks partly to heavy fog throughout the day.

Rain was expected on Sunday, with the BoM estimating an 80 per cent chance of a fall between 1mm and 5mm. About 0.6mm of rain had fallen by Sunday afternoon.

But May has not lived up to expectations set in a very wet April.

Just 35.8mm of rain has fallen so far in May, less than the month's average of 44.2mm.

More than 467mm of rain has fallen on Tamworth so far in 2020, getting close to double last year's rainfall.

The weekend's frosty weather is likely to clear up through the week, according to the Weatherzone forecast.

Temperatures are set to spike back up this week, with Weatherzone predicting a top of 15 degrees on Monday spiking to 19 degrees by Wednesday. Overnight minimums are likely to sit around 5 degrees all week.

There is an even chance of a millimetre of rain on Monday, but little chance of anything more on the radar.
