Jesse Leigh Green will face the murder charge at a special hearing which has been set down for March next year in the NSW Supreme Court.
The supreme court will sit in Tamworth for the judge-alone hearing in 2021.
Green is accused of killing mother-of-one Teah Luckwell in her Robert Street unit in Tamworth in the early hours of March 28, 2018, about 17 hours before the 22-year-old's body was found by a neighbour.

Currently, the supreme court does not allow personal appearances by inmates, solicitors or parties to cases because of restrictions imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 health pandemic.
Green appeared via video link in the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney on Friday, where Justice Elizabeth Fullerton made the orders on the case.
The special hearing will run for three weeks, but the presiding judge has not yet been confirmed.
Green made no application for bail on Friday and it was formally refused by Justice Fullerton. He will remain in custody until the 2021 hearing.
Green was first committed for trial from the Tamworth Local Court in May, last year.
Some of the details connected to the case cannot be reported for legal reasons.
Detectives claim Green and Miss Luckwell were known to one another. No one else has been charged in connection to the murder.
The court has previously been told the brief of evidence into the murder case spans more than 6,000 pages.
Green has been in custody since his arrest in Tamworth on April 5, 2018, during a series of raids by Oxley police and Strike Force Penola, investigating a series of break-and-enters.
The strike force was launched by the State Crime Command's homicide squad and Oxley detectives to investigate Ms Luckwell's murder.
Green was also charged with other offences including aggravated break-and-enter; using an offensive weapon; and intimidation. He is yet to enter pleas and they will be dealt with after the special hearing.
