COVID-19 Tamworth: national parks, camping grounds, council offices in Tamworth region impacted by new measures

Council confirmed all camping grounds in the area will be closed from Monday.

This includes popular getaways like Sheba Dam, Split Rock Dam and Manilla Freedom Camping, along with other camping spots in the region.

A public health order says all caravan parks and camping areas must be closed to the general public in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service announced on Thursday that all campgrounds, popular tourist places and historic sites across the state's national parks would close, but roads and walking tracks would remain open.

This has impacted Warrabah, Watsons Creek, and Horton Falls national parks in the local Tamworth area.

Signs will be put up in the coming days informing people of the closures.

Council also said their offices in Tamworth and across the region will shut their doors to the public after close of business on Monday.

This includes offices in the townships of Barraba, Manilla and Nundle.

The closure comes in response to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's announcement on Sunday night which set a gathering limit of just two people.

Tamworth council's director of corporate and governance Chris Weber said the new measures made it impossible for council offices to stay open to the public.

"While the doors of offices will be closed to customers, we will continue to provide our services on the phone, through email and online," he said.

As of Sunday night, there are 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Tamworth local government area.
