University of New England vice Chancellor, professor Brigid Heywood has said UNE was progressing to Stage 2 of its COVID-19 management plan from advice to limit physical interactions, and thin out on-campus attendance.

"Staff are in the process of transitioning to working from home until further notice," she said.
"No COVID 19 reports have been taken amongst UNE staff or students; some staff have been isolated whilst testing occurs.

Ms Heywood said the Armidale campus and study centres were still open for the time being.
"We continue to follow the advice of NSW Health and Federal Government advice when making decisions about our sites," she said.
"Students on campus at Armidale have been advised to go home if possible, however the Colleges are still open and supporting a small number of student residents.
"All students can complete their course online and will be supported if they need to change their mode of study."
Ms Heywood said funding was available from the university to support quick response grants for students experiencing financial hardship, which impacted their ability to continue their academic studies (course program or research) at the university.
She said on government directive, The Yarm Gwanga childcare centre remained open.
