Soil testing at the Tamworth BMX track has revealed non-friable asbestos levels in the soil are below the threshold for further investigation and plans for remediation can go ahead.

Tamworth Regional Council received the report back from contractors in response to asbestos found on the track on March 4.
"The report states ... the concentration level of asbestos was below the 'soil investigation criteria for parks, public open spaces and playing fields'," Council's sport and recreation manager Paul Kelly said.

"The site was divided into a grid of 11 areas for testing and non-friable asbestos was found on either the soil surface or subsurface in seven of 11 grid areas.
"The levels are below the trigger point that requires any further, more detailed investigation."
Tamworth City BMX Club president Daniel Morris said the group will be meeting with council next week.
"What they've said is that nothing that was dangerous, they didn't find any airborne particles," he said.
"That was our first and foremost concern."
A remediation plan for the Marius Street site will be discussed by council and the Tamworth City BMX Club.
"These works could include removal and disposing of contaminated soil or the capping of the existing site with clean fill and then sealing," Mr Kelly said.
Council said the contamination was caused by soil and building waste brought to the site more than 30 years ago when the BMX track was under construction.
Testing was conducted after specialty contractors working for council at the site found what appeared to be fragments of asbestos on the bike track.
The track remains fenced off indefinitely and cannot be accessed by the public.
